If you’re looking for printable activities for 2-year-olds , I’ve got a great list of resources for you here!

Many moms love to let their toddlers get creative with crafts, cutting, gluing, etc… and the great news is that there are plenty of free printable activities for 2-year-olds available online.

These activities for toddlers build a variety of skills. Any type of activity that you do alongside your toddler is great at helping them learn to communicate with you and express what they want to say. Talk to them about what they are looking at, what they are sorting/cutting/etc., and anything about their activity that will stimulate their brain to learn to respond and communicate with you.

This is such a rewarding time as you engage with your toddler and help him/her learn new things! Don’t worry about the times when you can’t be right next to your 2-year-old during his/her activity. They also need some time alone (supervised from a distance 😀) to learn how to stay busy and get creative all on their own. Then there’s the middle ground, where you could be cooking in the kitchen and have them next to you doing an activity – ask them what they’re doing and peek at their progress now and then.

Free Printable Activities for 2-year-olds

Keeping a 2-year-old busy with fun activities can be a full-time job 😄, so you’ll want to print out several of these activities to have on hand.

I like to keep a folder full of printables for when my 2-year-old wants to “do an activity.”

Many of them can be laminated to use again and again.

Ok, on to this amazing list of activities to keep those 2-year-olds busy! 😄

Learning Printables For 2 Year Old

Looking for easy learning printables for 2 year old who may be ready for preschool? I’ve compiled easy learning printables for preschooler who you can start to introduce alphabets and numbers. These worksheets for 2 year olds will be perfect to get their little minds learning about alphabets and numbers!

This is actually an exciting time for your kid to start learning fine motor skills such as holding a pencil in their hands or cutting paper with scissors. While they may not know initially how to even hold a pencil, through easy exercises like tracing the lines or cutting paper with scissors, your kid will start getting better and better at holding a pencil and tracing alphabets or numbers.

Babies at this age have pretty short attention span so doing one page a day would be an accomplishment. But they are fast learners and will catch on pretty quickly as you introduce them to the concepts of alphabets and numbers through repetition and doing the same thing again and again.

And these work great as daycare worksheets for 2 year olds who need introduction to writing on paper and being familiar with ABCs and numbers.

So here you go. Learning Printables For 2 Year Old You Can Do At Home!

Worksheets for 2 years old - Alphabet Practice

This is the time when you little toddler can start to know the alphabets and practice recognizing and writing his/her own name. Making alphabets fun is the key here and doing one letter at a time at home is the key. Incorporate fun activities like using goldfish (and eating them afterwards) to help them recognize alphabet is one of the fun ways to introduce letters to your kid!

2 Year Old Activities to do Every Day! Plus Printable List

February 26, 2020 By Katie Chiavarone Leave a Comment

Sharing is caring!

  • Pinterest 94

These 2 year old activities will keep your children busy and engaged, and will give you bonding experiences. You don’t need supplies, do them every day!

Two year olds are always on the go and busy. This can make it tough to know what to do all day long. They are getting better about not putting everything in their mouths, can still be easily overstimulated, are still learning how to follow rules while testing boundaries.

We have written extensive lists on ideas for Activities for 2 Year Olds , and have holiday specific lists such as 15+ Fall Activities for 1 Year Olds and 2 Year Olds, 30+ Christmas Activities for 1 and 2 Year Olds  and more. These are great, but often require setup and materials.

This printable list below will serve as a reminder to you of 2 year old activities  that you can do every single day that will help you bond and stay busy.

printable worksheets for 2 year olds

2 Year Old Activities to do Every Day

Important milestones for 2 year olds include:

Movement activities such as kicking, throwing, running and catching.

Hand and motor development like holding a pencil or scribbling with a crayon, dumping and pouring or stacking blocks.

Language skills including pointing, naming people and objects, and saying 2-4 word sentences.

Emotionally they are working on copying others, becoming more independent, and expressing their feelings .

All of this is more than enough work for a 2 year old! Luckily, you can keep them busy and bond with them by carrying out some of the activities on this list, all while encouraging those milestones they are working so hard on.

15 Two Year Old Activities You Can Do EVERY Day!

As a stay-at-home mom, there were many days where I was left wondering, “ what am I going to do with him/her all day ?”.

I’m sharing some of my go-to activities and boredom busters that can be done every single day (kids love repetition), and, that don’t require anything that you most likely wouldn’t have at home. We had a similar list of activities to do with a 1 year old every day and it was a helpful resource!

Grab the free printable of these activities at the bottom of this post and hang them in every room in your house for quick reference 😉

2 Year Old Activities

Read a book . Or the same book over and over . We have many book lists for this age including  12 Bee Books for Preschoolers ,  15 Spring Kids Books ,  Fall Picture Books for Kids , and  10 Simple Color Mixing Books to Read

Have an indoor scavenger hunt.  Make a list of items around the house that you know your 2 year old can identify, and see if you can find them together. Look for a chair, a sink, the blocks, etc.

Play dress-up.  This age group has the beginnings of pretend play, and just might love to put on a chef apron or a fire chief hat.

Go plane watching.  Lay down in the grass or go for a walk and look for airplanes in the sky.

Go for a walk. (grab the umbrellas in the rain and splash in puddles – bonus points if you jump too ;)).

Have a dance party . Crank up the tunes and show you little one your best moves, you will have a happy audience. You little one might be able to teach you a new dance move or two.

Play catch.  Remember those milestones above? Playing catch works on motor skills that 2 year olds are developing. Find a big, soft ball and play indoors or outside.

Play with Playdough.  Keep this on hand as it will become a go-to activity. Make your own playdough or buy the classic Playdoh brand.

Stack pantry items.  Cereal boxes and soup cans are great for building towers. Plus, you just might be able to get dinner cooked this way!

Play I Spy.  Describe an object that you can see in the room and see if your two year old can guess what it is. You can also try a printable I Spy game.

Build a tower and knock it down.  Knocking down a tower might be more fun for toddlers than the actual building of them. Give them a safe space to practice this skill.

Play with puppets.  You are sure to hear some giggles with this one. Don’t have puppets in your toy box? Use a sock on your hand and a funny voice.

Play hide and seek.  Hide in an obvious spot and let your 2 year old find you, they will get a kick out of it!

Play in water.  My parenting mantra is “when all else fails, add water”. Take a bath, fill up the sink to splash in, or play in the hose.

Play with stickers . I like to stock up on seasonal stickers from the dollar store and put them out with bills or other mail that is going to be trashed for toddlers to put stickers on.

Most of these, with the exception of an outdoor walk, can be done INDOORS.  Even airplane watching can be done from the living room window. For those long Winter days , this will come in handy!

Alphabet Activities for 2-year-olds

In this series you’ll find playful alphabet activities for 2-year-olds .

How to teach the alphabet to your 2-year-old

If your two-year-old is showing an interest in learning the alphabet and doing simple, structured activities with you, consider doing a playful letter-of-the-week series.

My Two had seen her older siblings do many learning activities with me and was ready for her own. When she started asking, “When is it my turn to do a ‘tivity?” I decided to start teaching her the alphabet.

Progress was slow during the first few months, so we spent several weeks on each letter. By the time she was 2 1/2, however, her ability to remember the letters had increased. At this point we switched to one letter each week.

Because of life getting in the way (she has five siblings), we got a little behind some months. For that reason, we did letters S-Z during the first couple of months after her third birthday.

I find my ideas in my printed copy of this ebook . Since many of the activities are too advanced for my Two, I rely on the enormous list of ideas in the Appendix.

We began with the letters of her name (A, M, H, I, R) and and did the rest of the letters in alphabetical order.

We hope you find some fun activities to try!

Understanding the Basics: An Introduction to Arts and Crafts for 2 Year Olds

Arts and crafts are a great way to stimulate your 2 year old’s creativity, imagination, and fine motor skills. They also provide opportunities for learning about colors, shapes, textures, and patterns. Arts and crafts for 2 year olds can involve using recycled or household items, such as paper cups, yogurt cups, straws, newspapers, fabric, toilet paper rolls, tin cans, and aluminum foil.

They can also practice skills like cutting, tearing, gluing, painting, and spraying. Some examples of arts and crafts for 2 year olds are paper cup flowers, wind chimes, necklaces, hats, flag collages, bubble paintings, and popsicle stick pencil holders.

Materials Guide: Choosing the Right Supplies for Your Toddler’s Art Projects

When choosing materials for your toddler’s art projects, you want to make sure they are safe, non-toxic, washable, and easy to use. Here are some of the essential supplies you will need:

  • Crayons:  Crayons are one of the first art tools that toddlers can use to scribble and draw simple strokes. They are colorful, easy to grip, and come in different shapes and sizes. You can also use crayon shavings to make melted crayon art.
  • Paint:  Paint is another fun way to explore colors and textures with your toddler. You can use finger paints, watercolors, tempera paints, or acrylic paints. You can also make your own paint with food coloring, cornstarch, or shaving cream. You will need brushes, sponges, rollers, or stamps to apply the paint on paper, cardboard, or canvas.
  • Glue:  Glue is essential for sticking different materials together and making collages. You can use white glue, glue sticks, or hot glue (with adult supervision). You can also make your own glue with flour and water.
  • Scissors:  Scissors are useful for cutting paper, fabric, yarn, or other materials. You will need scissors that are designed for beginners, with blunt tips and easy-grip handles. You can also use safety scissors or plastic scissors that only cut paper.
  • Other materials:  Depending on the type of art project you want to do with your toddler, you may need other materials such as paper plates, card stock, patty cases, stickers, googly eyes, pom poms, pipe cleaners, beads, buttons, feathers, sequins, glitter, ribbon, yarn, clay, play dough, or salt dough.

Avoiding Common Mistakes: Tips for a Seamless Crafting Experience with Toddlers

Crafting with toddlers can be a lot of fun, but it can also be messy, frustrating, or even dangerous if you don’t take some precautions. Here are some tips to avoid common mistakes and have a seamless crafting experience with your 2 year old:

  • Choose age-appropriate activities:  Not all arts and crafts are suitable for 2 year olds. Some may be too difficult, too boring, or too risky for them. Choose activities that match your toddler’s interests, abilities, and attention span. You can also modify the activities to make them easier or more challenging for your toddler.
  • Prepare the materials in advance:  Before you start crafting with your toddler, make sure you have all the materials you need and that they are ready to use. Cut, measure, mix, or sort the materials beforehand if necessary. This will save you time and prevent your toddler from losing interest or getting impatient.
  • Set up a safe and comfortable space:  Choose a space that is well-lit, well-ventilated, and spacious enough for your toddler to move around. Cover the floor and the table with newspaper, plastic, or cloth to protect them from spills and stains. Keep sharp, hot, or toxic materials out of reach of your toddler. Have a trash can, a wet cloth, and some paper towels handy for cleaning up.
  • Supervise and assist your toddler:  Don’t leave your toddler alone while crafting. Stay close by and watch what they are doing. Offer guidance, encouragement, and praise when needed. Help them with tasks that are too hard or dangerous for them. Don’t criticize or correct their mistakes. Let them express themselves freely and creatively.
  • Have fun and enjoy the process:  The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the process of crafting with your toddler. Don’t worry about the outcome or the quality of the product. Focus on the experience and the learning that happens along the way. Celebrate your toddler’s efforts and achievements. Display their artwork proudly or share it with others.

Educational Benefits: Why Arts and Crafts are Essential for 2 Year Olds

Arts and crafts are not only fun but also educational for 2 year olds. They offer many benefits for their development and learning in different domains:

  • Cognitive:  Arts and crafts help 2 year olds develop their cognitive skills such as perception, memory, attention, problem-solving, reasoning, and creativity. They also help them learn about concepts such as colors, shapes, sizes, numbers, letters, patterns, and sequences.
  • Motor:  Arts and crafts help 2 year olds develop their motor skills such as hand-eye coordination, fine motor control, dexterity, strength, and endurance. They also help them establish hand dominance and improve their writing readiness.
  • Language:  Arts and crafts help 2 year olds develop their language skills such as vocabulary, grammar, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and phonology. They also help them communicate their thoughts, feelings, ideas, and preferences.
  • Social-emotional:  Arts and crafts help 2 year olds develop their social-emotional skills such as self-awareness, self-regulation, self-esteem, self-expression, empathy, cooperation, sharing3, and friendship. They also help them cope with emotions such as frustration, anger, sadness, and joy.

For Parents and Educators: Training Guide to Facilitate Arts and Crafts for Toddlers

If you are a parent or an educator who wants to facilitate arts and crafts for toddlers effectively, here are some tips to follow:

  • Plan ahead:  Before you start crafting with toddlers, plan ahead what you want to do with them. Choose an activity that is appropriate for their age group, that matches their interests, that fits your time frame, that uses materials that are available, that meets your learning objectives, and that is flexible enough to accommodate different levels of abilities.
  • Prepare the environment:  Before you start crafting with toddlers, prepare the environment where you will do it. Make sure it is safe, comfortable, clean, organized, accessible, stimulating, and inviting. Provide enough space for movement, enough materials for exploration, enough tools for manipulation, enough examples for inspiration, enough instructions for guidance, provide enough feedback for evaluation, enough praise for encouragement, and enough challenge for motivation.
  • Engage the toddlers:  During the crafting session, engage the toddlers in a positive and supportive way. Use open-ended questions, comments, and suggestions to stimulate their curiosity, creativity, and thinking. Use simple and clear language, gestures, and demonstrations to explain the steps, rules, and expectations. Use positive reinforcement, recognition, and rewards to acknowledge their efforts, achievements, and improvements. Use humor, stories, songs, and games to make the session fun and enjoyable.
  • Monitor and adjust:  Throughout the crafting session, monitor the toddlers’ progress, behavior, and mood. Observe how they are using the materials, tools, and techniques. Notice how they are interacting with you and with each other. Pay attention to how they are feeling and expressing themselves. Adjust your plan, pace, or approach accordingly. Provide more or less guidance, support, or challenge as needed. Address any issues or problems that may arise. Ensure that the toddlers are safe, comfortable, and happy.
  • Reflect and evaluate:  After the crafting session, reflect and evaluate how it went. Ask the toddlers to share their thoughts, feelings, and opinions about the activity. Ask them to show their artwork and explain what they did and why. Ask them what they liked or disliked about the activity. Ask them what they learned or discovered from the activity. Give them productive feedback and advice for improvement. Thank them for their participation and cooperation.
