Live Worksheets Tutorial

As a source for thousands of live, interactive worksheets to use in the classroom, Liveworksheets.com is a tremendously helpful website for teachers. The site has a library of worksheets on 65 subjects in 99 languages. A tutorial guides teachers on how to create interactive, live worksheets and how to use them optimally in the classroom, for homework, and also for teaching online. Liveworksheets .com provides educators with the option of registering workbooks for their students, which enhances control and purpose with homework.

Table of Contents

What are “live” worksheets?

Liveworksheets.com enables teachers to transform their traditional printable worksheets (doc, pdf, jpg, etc.) into online exercises with self-correction, which is why it is called live worksheets or “ interactive worksheets .”

On their website, Liveworksheets.com furthermore incorporates new technologies such as sound bites , videos , memes, drag-and-drop features, multiple answer options , and even speaking exercises . Adapting to these live worksheets is easy for students, who are all familiar with using headphones or the recording functions of their phones, tablets or laptops. This makes interactive worksheets ideal for ESL and other language teachers.

Where to find live worksheets?

To find live worksheets to use, teachers simply go to the section marked interactive worksheets on the website of Liveworksheets.com and then select the subjects they are teaching. For example, I teach English as a second language, so, I can search for live worksheets providing grammar exercises in the past tense. The website has a tutorial and a video tutorial on how to make and use worksheets.

How to use live worksheets

The Liveworksheets.com website provides options that are great for class, using either a projector or the hybrid method of interacting with students via e-mail/ WhatsApp and other media, having shared the relevant worksheet with students for homework. The same applies if you’re teaching online. Simply copy and send worksheets to your students. They in turn must complete and mail it back for you to check on their homework. There are many types of worksheets; drag and drop the best ones for your lessons. It is also easy to create personalized interactive worksheets.

Step by step instruction

To get started, just log in on Liveworksheets.com. Then go to Upload . There are many worksheets, so first select a suitable one for your lesson. Next, proceed to type in questions and answers in the worksheet you have selected. It is very easy to use, just drag a square and then you type in the correct answer. Then save the document. There is also a preview function.

If you are uncertain about what to do, go to the Question Mark and it will explain everything. You can create a ‘ Select Box Choose ,’ so your students can pick between two answers. Otherwise, set up a Multiple Choice option where students have to select either yes or no. The questions and answers can also be joined with arrows. Students can drag and drop and connect the correct answers.

Using audio with live worksheets

Live worksheets can include listening exercises by loading up some audio. Explore the audio file on the website by using Word Search.

There is also a video explaining how to do that, and also on how to add Mp3 files, YouTube videos , or PowerPoint links to create interactive worksheets for students. These live worksheets can then be added to workbooks. Each student can be assigned a workbook that is then electronically sent to them.

You will have to register your students first, though. Otherwise, just go to the interactive worksheets and add the file to the workbook that you’ve already created.

Here are a few examples of live worksheets:

Using live worksheets in workbooks

The teacher can create an interactive workbook for each student with instructions on which worksheets to do. The students do the worksheets online and send their answers to the teacher. This motivates students to complete homework at a set time. It makes teachers’ work easier and saves time scoring students’ work, and communicating with students on an individual level in the comfort of being online. Having a workbook of each student’s worksheets make control and revision easy. It also saves schools a fortune on resources by not printing worksheets.

The Free Accounts version of Liveworksheets allows teachers to register ten groups of students and create ten workbooks per group of ten students for a total of 100 students! Each workbook can hold 120 worksheets.

How to create workbooks

live worksheet at school year 1

This website enables the teacher to create a workbook for each student, scoring their work and thus communicating individually in the comfort of being online. The benefits of these workbooks with interactive worksheets for online teaching are obvious.

The other remarkable aspect of this website is that there are worksheets available on many subjects and in many languages that have been created by other teachers that are being shared.

Let’s investigate how teachers can use Liveworksheets to create workbooks for students and then find and use interactive worksheets optimally.

How to download live worksheets

Teachers can add interactive worksheets to their own websites or blogs. They can embed their own worksheets and even that of other teachers (when they’ve allowed the option). There is a special code to insert into your website, just open the worksheet and click “Embed in my website or blog” to receive the code. Many worksheets are downloadable in pdf format when the author (other teachers) has allowed this option, but there is a limit to downloading ten worksheets per day.

Year 1 English Worksheet

Where to start?

When introducing reading and writing to primary school students it’s best to follow the national curriculum’s guidelines so that your students can:

  • Identify and use nouns in sentences
  • Form plurals of nouns correctly
  • Use phonics to decode and read words containing digraphs
  • Be comfortable using prepositions
  • Recognise and use compound words in sentences
  • Understand the sounds of different combined letters*
  • Understand how the addition of prefixes and the subtraction of suffixes can change the meaning of a word

*There are 26 letters in the English alphabet which make 44 different sounds called phonemes.

We believe the best way to improve a student’s reading comprehension is to make the process fun. That’s why we’ve made our own teaching resources and English activity worksheets for you to use when doing English activities in the classroom.

English Worksheets in our library

Here is the list of our printable activity sheets to help improve your year group’s reading comprehension.

  • Verb matching — Our Verb Matching worksheet is a great way for students to practise identifying and matching verbs with the correct subject.

Aside from our worksheets above, think about how else you can incorporate nouns, plurals, phonics, and compound words into your lessons. Here’s an idea of how to do this:

Introducing English language concepts

  • Ask the students if they know what nouns are and give examples (e.g., dog, cat, book, ball ).
  • Explain that nouns are words that name people, places, or things.
  • Share several nouns and ask your students to identify them.
  • Ask your students to create their own sentences using the nouns.
  • Explain that plurals are used when there’s more than one person, place, or thing.
  • Give examples of plurals (e.g., dogs, cats, books, balls).
  • Explain the different ways to form plurals (adding -s, -es, changing the spelling).
  • Try this quiz if your students are ready.
  • Explain that phonics is the relationship between letters and sounds in words.
  • Show flashcards with pictures and words and ask the students to read the words using phonics.

Compound Words

  • Explain that compound words are made up of two or more words that have a combined meaning.
  • Show examples of compound words (e.g., basketball, toothbrush, bookshelf).

City identifies 2 officers, 1 paramedic killed in Burnsville, Minnesota; suspect also dead

By WCCO Staff, David Schuman, Jonah Kaplan, Marielle Mohs, Jason Rantala

Updated on: February 19, 2024 / 11:59 PM CST / CBS Minnesota

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Two police officers and a paramedic were shot and killed in a Twin Cities suburb Sunday morning, authorities said, and the man who shot them is also dead.

Superintendent Drew Evans with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Burnsville police officers were called to a home at about 1:50 a.m. on 33rd Avenue South and East 126th Street, just west of the Interstate 35E - Highway 77 interchange.

The suspect, whom the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified Monday as 38-year-old Shannon Gooden , was inside and reported to be armed. Several others were also barricaded inside, including seven young children ranging in age from 2 to 15.

Evans said law enforcement "spent quite a bit of time negotiating with this individual," and paramedics came in for backup at about 5 a.m. Minutes later, dispatch ordered everyone to stay back after Gooden opened fire.

Burnsville city officials identified the victims as officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth. Sgt. Adam Medlicott, 38, was also shot but is expected to survive.

Gooden was reported dead at about 8 a.m., and the family members in the home made it out safely a short time later. A medical examiner said Gooden died by suicide.

Evans said details surrounding the timing and exchange of gunfire are not clear at this point in the investigation.

"Several officers did return fire," Evans said. "I will note this individual had several guns and large amounts of ammunition."

The fallen first responders

City officials said 27-year-old Elmstrand, from Chaska, joined the Burnsville Police Department in 2017 and was promoted in 2019. His wife spoke to CBS News and said they've been married for five years and have two young children.

"I think he just had to be the hero. He had to do what he thought was right to protect those little lives even if it meant putting his at risk and it breaks my heart because now he's gone. But I know that he thought what he did was right," she said.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office announced Monday that Elmstrand died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Ruge, also 27, joined the force in 2020. The Northfield resident was a physical evidence officer as well as a member of BPD's crisis negotiations team. He died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the HCME.

Finseth, 40, has been a firefighter and SWAT paramedic in the city since 2019. Fire Chief B.J. Jungmann says Finseth, a Savage resident, previously worked with the fire departments in Savage and Hastings. He died from gunshot wounds to his right arm and torso as he was trying to aid the wounded officers.

Finseth was also a volunteer youth baseball coach for Prior Lake/Savage, according to the Prior Lake Athletics for Youth Facebook page. He served in the Army's Bravo Company 1st Battalion 327th Infantry during Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to his LinkedIn page.

Funeral details will be shared in the coming days.

Medlicott, who has been with BPD for nearly a decade, was released from Hennepin Healthcare Monday and is recovering at home. Meldicott was Burnsville's Officer of the Year in 2020 and was promoted to sergeant in 2022. He is a drug recognition expert who also supervises community service officers.

Police Chief Tanya Schwartz says her department is "hurting."

RELATED: Burnsville shooting suspect identified as Shannon Gooden

"Today, three members of our team made the ultimate sacrifice for this community. They are heroes," Schwartz said. "Every day we pray that they go home to their families. And today that's not happening. We're heartbroken. We are going to need time to be together. Our families need time to grieve."

Jungmann says Sunday was the toughest day the city has ever experienced.

"It's a tragic day, we're all grieving, and we're all trying to understand what happened and why," Jungmann said.

Neighbors describe the scene

Jason Skog said he started to see a large police and SWAT presence in the neighborhood at about 2 a.m., but said things escalated around 5 a.m.

"I heard a loud explosion, which I chalked up right away to a motor going off, like a firework. But then like a minute later I heard another one, followed shortly thereafter by a series of gunfire, really rapid," Skog said. "Then I knew right away that something bad was taking place."

Skog didn't know exactly where the shooting was coming from, but he knew it was close to his home.

"Shortly thereafter, we got a phone call from the police department to shelter in place, go to your basement and shelter in place," Skog said.

Dylan Foline also lives in this neighborhood. The father of two is shaken by what happened, especially after learning that a family was barricaded in the home at the time of the shooting.

"This is a tragedy, and I have to now explain to my daughter what happened today, and it's just the thought of those kids, that's what really hits home to me and my heart goes out to the families of the responders," Foline said.

Shawn Flynn lives around the corner.

RELATED: Domestic calls posing greater danger for law enforcement

"Definitely some extra hugs and cuddles this morning with my boys and wife," Flynn said. "Thankful that something like that hasn't happened in our life and it hopefully never will. It's also a stark reminder that you never know you wake up Sunday morning and everything has gone sideways."

Hundreds line metro streets to honor victims

At Hennepin Healthcare in downtown Minneapolis, police and first responders from multiple cities gathered to show support Sunday afternoon. Injured officers are often taken to the hospital due to its status as a level-one trauma center.

Their caskets, draped in American flags, were carried into vans outside the hospital as a crowd of law enforcement stood to salute them.

Doctors, nurses and other hospital staff lined up in the skyway to see them off. Police, fire and paramedic vehicles stayed close as the vans departed downtown.

When they reached the medical examiner's office, the escort didn't end at the entrance. The group walked in alongside the fallen first responders so they were never alone.

Gov. Tim Walz reacts

Support and condolences from Minnesota state leaders and other law enforcement agencies are pouring in on social media .

"We must never take for granted the bravery and sacrifices our first responders make each and every day," Walz said in a statement. "Today, the families of these public servants received the call they knew was possible but hoped would never come. My heart is with those grieving families — the State of Minnesota stands ready to support in any way we can. This is a tragic loss for our state."

Today, we lower our flags in honor of Burnsville Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, and Firefighter Adam Finseth. It is with deepest gratitude that our state recognizes their service to, and sacrifice for, their fellow Minnesotans. Minnesota stands with Burnsville. — Governor Tim Walz (@GovTimWalz) February 19, 2024

Walz ordered flags be flown at half-staff starting Monday at sunrise and issued a proclamation for each victim.

"It is with deepest gratitude that our state recognizes their service to, and sacrifice for, their fellow Minnesotans," Walz wrote on Twitter/X Monday. "Minnesota stands with Burnsville."

Vigil held for victims outside Burnsville City Hall

Dozens gathered outside Burnsville City Hall Sunday evening to remember and pay respects to the fallen first responders.

Burnsville City Manager Gregg Lindberg thanked the community for its support and grace.

"It's been an emotional day. It's been a hard day," Lindberg said. "I have the distinct privilege of working alongside the men and women of our police department and our fire department who choose to come to work every day and risk their lives to the benefit of all of us."

Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Angie Craig were also on hand to pay their respects.

10p-pkg-burnsville-firs-wcco4vb4.jpg

"I can't imagine the pain that you're all going through. I just can't imagine," Craig said. "But what I want to say is to all of our officers out there, to all of our paramedics, our fire department, thank you for what you do."

Police from cities across the metro showed solidarity, a part of a grieving community that reaches far beyond Burnsville.

The Officer Down Memorial Page says a total of 18 officers nationwide have been killed in the line of duty so far this year. Six officers died by gunfire.

Body of Audrii Cunningham, missing 11-year-old Texas girl, found in river

The body of missing 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham was found in the Trinity River in Texas, officials announced Tuesday.

Don Steven McDougal, 42, who was already in custody on an unrelated matter, was charged with capital murder in connection with her murder, Polk County booking records showed Wednesday. He is being held on no bond.

Sheriff Byron Lyons said information from the suspect, cellphone data and social media imagery sent in by citizens led them to the body off Highway 59 in the county.

A local water authority lowered the water level of the river to assist divers in their search, the sheriff said. Her body was with a medical examiner, who would determine an exact cause and manner of death, he said.

Cunningham had not been seen since she left her Polk County home on Thursday at about 7 a.m. to catch a school bus, officials said.

But she never got on that bus or made it to school that day, according to Polk County Sheriff’s deputies .

An Amber Alert was issued for the 4-foot-1 child with blond hair and blue eyes. She was wearing black pants, a black hoodie with white lettering and black tennis shoes on Thursday.

11-year-old Texas girl still missing after four days, man in custody is 'person of interest'

McDougal was called “one of the persons of interest” involved in the case when he was arrested Friday on suspicion of aggravated assault, in an unrelated incident, officials said.

McDougal lives in a trailer behind Cunningham's home and is considered a family friend who'd occasionally take the girl to the bus stop or to school, officials said.

A small children's backpack was found at the Lake Livingston Dam, not far from the Cunningham family home, authorities said. Trinity River feeds into the lake.

A $10,000 reward had been posted for any information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person responsible for Audrii’s disappearance.

The Supreme Court leaves in place the admissions plan at an elite Virginia public high school

The Supreme Court has left in place the admissions policy at an elite public high school in Virginia, despite claims that it discriminates against highly qualified Asian Americans

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday left in place the admissions policy at an elite public high school in Virginia that some parents claimed discriminates against highly qualified Asian Americans.

The court's order, over the dissent of Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, ended a legal challenge to a policy that was overhauled in 2020 to increase diversity, without taking race into account.

A panel of the federal appeals court in Richmond had earlier upheld the constitutionality of the admissions policy at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a school frequently cited among the best in the nation.

The high court's consideration of the case followed its decision in June that struck down admissions policies at colleges and universities that took account of the race of applicants.

The Fairfax County School Board overhauled the Thomas Jefferson admissions process in 2020, scrapping a standardized test. The new policy gives weight in favor of applicants who are economically disadvantaged or still learning English, but it does not take race into account.

The effect in the first freshman class admitted under it was to increase the percentage of Black students from 1% to 7% and Hispanic students from 3% to 11%. Both groups have been greatly underrepresented for decades. Asian American representation decreased from 73% to 54%.

For the current school year, Black and Hispanic students made up 6.7% and 6%, respectively, of those offered admission, the school board said. Asian Americans represented 61.6% of those admitted, the board said.

’We have long believed that the new admissions process is both constitutional and in the best interest of all of our students. It guarantees that all qualified students from all neighborhoods in Fairfax County have a fair shot at attending this exceptional high school,” said Karl Frisch, Fairfax County School Board chair.

In 2022, a federal judge found the school board engaged in impermissible “racial balancing” when it overhauled admissions. The appeals court reversed that ruling.

Alito wrote that the district court got it right. The appeals court essentially ruled that “intentional racial discrimination is constitutional so long as it is not too severe,” he wrote.

The parents who challenged the policy say it discriminates against Asian American applicants who would have been granted admission if academic merit were the sole criteria, and that efforts to increase Black and Hispanic representation necessarily come at the expense of Asian Americans.

“The Supreme Court missed an important opportunity to end race-based discrimination in K-12 admissions,” said Pacific Legal Foundation senior attorney Joshua Thompson, who represents the parents who challenged.

Body of 11-year-old Texas girl who disappeared on her way to school has been found in a river, sheriff says

T he body of Audrii Cunningham, an 11-year-old girl who disappeared while on her way to school in Texas, was found Tuesday in the Trinity River, according to Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons.

“Audrii’s body was located at the Trinity River under US Highway 59,” Lyons told reporters at a Tuesday news conference. He later said her body had been taken to the medical examiner’s office in Harris County and officials were awaiting information on her cause of death.

Polk County District Attorney Shelly Sitton said they are in the process of preparing arrest warrants for Don Steven McDougal, 42, adding they believe a capital murder charge will be appropriate.

“Based on all of the evidence that law enforcement has collected, they are in the process of preparing the appropriate arrest warrants,” Sitton said. “At this time, we believe the appropriate arrest warrant is going to be for capital murder in the death of Audrii Cunningham. He is still in jail under an unrelated felony charge.”

When asked by reporters how Audrii was killed, Sitton said, “I cannot speak to that.”

McDougal, a friend of Audrii’s father, gave investigators a list of places he had been to, but didn’t divulge where her body was, according to the sheriff. Lyons added authorities also used cell phone data and video to help find her remains.

McDougal was already in custody after he was arrested Friday night on unrelated aggravated assault charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

Suspect has lengthy list of criminal convictions

McDougal has a lengthy criminal past with convictions for violent crimes and another for enticing a child, according to court records in several Texas counties.

In 2007, he was convicted of enticing a child in Brazoria County, Texas. Court records show he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to two years in prison, but given credit for 527 days. Online records in Brazoria County do not provide details on the specific allegations in that case.

He was also convicted in 2010 and 2019 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim in the first case, which led to a four-year prison sentence, told CNN on Tuesday that McDougal, his former coworker, attacked him after being thrown out of his house.

“He showed up with some other friends that I had,” Elic Bryan said. “We ended up throwing him out of the house and he came back with a knife.”

McDougal began stabbing the door before coming back inside, Bryan said.

“He came at me with the knife, and I had my shotgun, and I hit him in the face with it,” Bryan said. “I had no idea he was that kind of person.”

CNN is working to determine whether McDougal has legal representation and has also reached out to his family for comment.

Sheriff: McDougal took part in search for Audrii

McDougal had joined in the search efforts for the missing girl, the sheriff told CNN earlier Tuesday.

“Some of the witnesses have even said that he was in the community and knocking on doors … asking have they seen her,” the sheriff told CNN.

“To me, it simply tells me is that he’s trying to give the appearances that he has no play or he’s not at fault in her disappearance and that (he’s) part of the concerned parties who were trying to locate her.”

McDougal apparently took to social media last week to state his innocence.

A comment of “I’m not guilty,” from a Facebook account appearing to belong to McDougal was added under a post on the Facebook page “True Crime Society” the day after Audrii Cunningham was reported missing.

“I was there and was questioned. I am not running or hiding,” McDougal wrote before commenting again and saying, “I have done everything I can to help find her. I have done nothing wrong.”

Another comment reads: “I am the one that went and knocked on the houses by the bus stop to get video footage.”

Most of the posts were made early Friday morning.

Law enforcement officials didn’t immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment on the posts.

McDougal lives in a trailer on the family’s property and sometimes took Audrii to the bus stop, the sheriff said.

The family’s home is near Lake Livingston – “one of the largest reservoirs in the state, with 83,000 surface acres,” according to Texas Parks & Wildlife .

Around 7 a.m. Thursday, McDougal and Audrii left the house for the bus stop, authorities said. That was the last time Audrii’s family saw her. She never made it onto the school bus or to school that day.

Her backpack was found near a dam on the lake Friday, about 5 miles from where her body was discovered Tuesday.

The sheriff said there were no signs of struggle where the bag was located.

CNN’s Steve Almasy, Raja Razek, Andy Rose, Jillian Sykes and Carroll Alvarado contributed to this report.

Female high school wrestler makes history by winning Arizona state title against boys

(CNN) - An Arizona high school senior is now in the history books for becoming the first girl to clinch an Arizona state wrestling title, competing against boys.

“Because once you see it done, you know it’s possible,” Audrey Jimenez said. “Women’s athletics just overall are really, you know, just really shining right now.”

The senior at Sunnyside High School was allowed to wrestle with the boys throughout the season, all the way up to a section of the state.

“So, I mean, it’s kind of just like a ‘Why not?’ type of thing,” she said.

Her father, Billy Jimenez, said it was “just unbelievable” to see Audrey win the title.

“And when she puts her mind to something, and pretty much everything that she said she’s going to do, she’s done,” he said. “It was just unbelievable. We still, I still couldn’t believe it.”

Later this year, Audrey will be going to the Olympic trials with hopes of making the Olympic team.
