whatsapp change rintone

Having a separate ringtone or notification sound for different apps like Instagram is a blessing and the best way to differentiate between apps without checking your phone. For example, what if you want to make a distinction between an incoming standard cellular call and WhatsApp call? You can simply change the WhatsApp ringtone on Android and use a workaround on iOS. We explain how to do it below.

In this article:

Can you set ringtones on WhatsApp?

You can set any ringtone on WhatsApp in WhatsApp Notification settings on Android. On iOS, you can change ringtones for individual contacts and work your way around the fact that the custom ringtone functionality in third-party apps is not available by default. Luckily, you can change notification sounds for WhatsApp messages and Group Messages on both platforms in the same manner.

1. How to change the WhatsApp ringtone on your phone

As one might assume, setting a separate ringtone for third-party apps is much easier to do on Android than on iOS. If you look into WhatsApp in-app settings on Android, you can easily find an option to change the ringtone for incoming calls and enable or disable vibration. If your WhatsApp isn’t ringing on Android , changing a ringtone might help, too.

Here’s how to change the WhatsApp ringtone on your Android:

  • Open WhatsApp .
  • Tap on the 3-dots menu and open Settings .
  • Open Notifications .
  • Scroll to the bottom and, under Calls , select Ringtone . The default ringtone is the system ringtone used for regular incoming calls.

whatsapp ringtone

On the other hand, it’s not possible to set a separate ringtone for WhatsApp on an iPhone. WhatsApp for iOS will use only the default ringtone and your only option is to set separate ringtones for contacts. As WhatsApp Support suggests . This is not the worse solution if you speak with a few contacts over WhatsApp exclusively and regularly.

Here’s how to set a different ringtone for a contact on your iPhone:

  • Open Phone .
  • Select Contacts from the bottom.
  • Open a contact with whom you mostly converse via WhatsApp voice calls.
  • Tap Edit from the top right corner.
  • Tap Ringtone .
  • Choose one of the ringtones.

whatsapp ringtone

If you do this for all contacts you talk to on WhatsApp, it would be sort of synonymous with WhatsApp having a separate ringtone. At the moment, that’s the best we can do on iOS. You can even make some iPhone contacts ring on silent , but this sadly doesn’t apply to WhatsApp and other third-party apps.

2. How to change notification sound on WhatsApp

In comparison to ringtones, you can change notification sounds on both Android and iOS without any mental gymnastics and workarounds. This can be done in WhatsApp settings and you have an option to set separate notification sounds for messages and group messages.

Here’s how to change WhatsApp notification sound on Android and iOS:

  • Tap on the 3-dots menu and open Settings on Android. On iOS, tap Settings from the bottom tab.
  • Select Notifications .
  • Under Messages , select Notification tone on Android. On iOS , choose Sound under Message Notifications .

whatsapp ringtone

  • You can do the same for Group messages.

You can import notification sounds on Android while you can’t do the same on iOS. Still, you have a choice and it’s better than the ringtone status we talked about in the previous section. With that said, we can conclude this article. Thank you for reading and don’t forget to share your thoughts, questions, or suggestions in the comments section below. Your feedback is more than welcome.

How to find and set ringtones through the Zedge app

Zedge Android app features.

There are a lot of places to find ringtones, but far and away, the easiest is Zedge. Zedge is a customization app that looks to personalize your phone in a number of ways, most notably with its ringtone and wallpaper galleries.

Zedge even streamlines the process, letting you download and set your ringtone from the same screen! I will admit the ads on Zedge have gotten a bit much over the years, but if you like to change your ringtone every few weeks, you can shell out for the ad-free upgrade.

Browsing the Android app is a simple affair; you can browse by category or search for something specific. Once you find a ringtone in the app you like, here's how to set it:

1. Open the Zedge app on your Android phone. If you don't have it on your phone, install it from the Google Play Store first.

2. Select the Ringtones option from the side menu.

3. Choose a ringtone that you like.

4. Tap the download button on the ringtone's listing.

5. Select SET RINGTONE , SET NOTIFICATION , or SET CONTACT RINGTONE depending on what you want to do.

6. Give Zedge permission to modify system settings.

You'll see a toast notification at the bottom of the screen telling you the ringtone has been applied. If you wish to set a ringtone to a specific contact, as your notification tone, or even as your alarm ringtone, you can select those options from the same menu.

To confirm that your phone's ringtone has indeed been changed, you can check the Phone ringtone under the Sounds & vibration menu.

Personalize your device with the help of a great Android launcher . You can choose a theme and match your phone's notification sounds and ringtones to the wallpaper and app icons. There are some really cool icon packs available for Android phones, including one that lets you create custom icons .

Everyone likes to know who's calling before they actually pick up the phone, and the easiest way to achieve that is with custom ringtones for specific callers. That way, when your phone starts blasting "Cherry Pie," you know it's your wife. Or when it's "Roll Out (My Business)," you know it's your boss. Fortunately, this is a simple process in Android. Here’s how to do it.

Before we get started, you should be aware that the process may vary slightly between manufacturers and their respective custom skins. There’s no possible way we can show how to do it on every phone out there, but I’ll show how to do it on stock Android, Samsung, and LG devices—you should be able to at least get the idea from there.

So, let’s get started.

You can do this from either the Phone or Contacts apps—since Contacts is essentially an extension of the dialer, they both ultimately end up in the same place anyway.

The first thing you’ll want to do is open either of the above-mentioned apps and find the contact you’d like to set a custom ringtone for. In this case, I’ll be setting a tone for my good friend Barack Obama. We go way back.

Just tap the little pencil icon to open the “Edit contact” menu. From there, tap on the three-dot overflow menu in the top right corner.

You see the option that reads “Set ringtone”? Yeah, that’s the one we’re looking for. Give it a tap.

This will open the Ringtones menu, where you can choose whichever tone you’d like for that contact. I happen to know for a fact that Barack is a huge metalhead, so I’m going to use In Flames’ “Through Oblivion” for his tone. He’ll love that.

After that, just hit the check mark next to the overflow menu.

And we're done. Can’t wait for the next call I get from good ol’ B-rock.

On Samsung phones, you can use either the Phone or Contacts app to get the job done. Open the one of your choosing (I’m using Phone because that just makes sense) and navigate to your contact. I’ve been meaning to set a custom tone for my girl Katy Perry for a while now, so I might as well do it now. She blows my phone up like you wouldn’t believe.

Once you’ve opened the Phone (or Contacts) app, navigate to your contact, tap the “Edit” button in the top right.

From there, hit the “More” button, then scroll all the way to the bottom.

Tap the “Ringtone” option. I think I’ll assign Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” to Katy, because that just seems like the right thing to do here.

Once you’ve selected your ringtone, tap the “Save” option at the top.

And that’s that. Too bad Katy will never hear her ringtone when she calls me.

I’m using an LG V10 here, but it should be pretty much the same process (if not identical) on all other modern LG devices, too. And guess what? You can do this from the Phone or Contacts app on LG phones, just like all the others. Seeing a pattern here?

This time, I’ll be hooking my buddy Michael Jordan up with a custom ringtone. I’m a pretty busy guy, so I want to know when it’s MJ giving me a ring.

Once you’ve opened the Phone or Contacts app and navigated to the contact you want to edit, hit the little pencil icon in the top right to open up the “Edit contact” menu.

Scroll all the way down. At the bottom of this page, there are two options: Ringtone and Notification sound. You can all sorts of custom action here.

My boy MJ rocked the 23 on his chest for many years, so it’s only fair to set his ringtone accordingly— 23 from Mike Will Made-It  seems to fit the bill perfectly.

When you’re finished, hit “OK.” Then hit “Save.”

That’s it. Done and done.

Setting custom ringtones in Android is a pretty straightforward and simple process. And once you’ve mastered the art of creating ringtones from your favorite songs, the possibilities are endless. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to create a few more contacts for people I pretend to know.

How To Change WhatsApp Rington On Android And iPhone: Customize The Sound Of Calls Or Messages

As an Amazon Associate and affiliate of other programs, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Widely used messaging service  WhatsApp  allows you to change messages and call ringtones.

For calling, this feature enables users to have a different ringtone for WhatsApp calls and cellular calls so that the calls can be differentiated by listening to the ringtone itself.

Moreover, you can set a custom WhatsApp ringtone for different groups as well as contacts. This comes in handy when you want to get notified by the sound of the notification itself whether it is of priority or not.

Suppose you are a part of some groups or chats where your intervention is very important.

Then, you can set a different WhatsApp ringtone for that group or chat or even individual contact. Thus, by only listening to the sound of the notification, you know that you need to check it as fast as possible while you can safely ignore the others.

All in all, you get the idea! Custom notifications make it easier to figure out which contact is calling or messaging you by listening to the WhatsApp ringtone alone.

Let’s dive in!

  • 1.1 Android
  • 2.1 Android
  • 3 Conclusion
  • 4 About The Author

Change A WhatsApp Ringtone For Calls Or Messages

You can change this particular WhatsApp ringtone from the same Settings menu where the ringtone for messages is changed.

  • Open WhatsApp, tap on 3 dots, and select Settings
  • Under Settings select Notifications

Open WhatsApp, go to Settings and then tap on Notifications.

  • Now, you can find 3 different sections for Message (for individual contacts), Group, and Call notifications respectively. Tap on the Notification tone  in Message or Group notifications. For Call notifications, you need to tap on Ringtone .
  • After that, select the desired tone. You can even change the vibration pattern for all types of notifications.

Choose a ringtone for Messages in WhatsApp.

  • Launch WhatsApp and go to the Settings tab.
  • Next, tap on Notifications.

Go to the Settings tab and then tap on Notiications.

  • Similar to the Android app, you’ll find sections for Message and Group Notifications . Tap on the Sound option and select the desired ringtone.

Choose a ringtone for Messages and Groups in WhatsApp.

On the iPhone app, the WhatsApp call notifications setting is missing.

But that doesn’t mean you cannot change the incoming call ringtone. You can change the WhatsApp ringtone for a call from the phone settings along with the ringtone for normal phone calls.

The only drawback here is that you cannot have a different tone for mobile and WhatsApp calls on iPhone.

This will change the WhatsApp ringtone for all the contacts and groups.

Set A Custom WhatsApp Ringtone For Contacts And Groups

Now let’s see, how to set different message and call tones for individual contact and group if you want to differentiate them from the ringtone on Android and iPhone.

  • Open WhatsApp and select the conversation of the desired group or contact for which you want to change the message tone.
  • Go to the Group/Contact Info screen.

Open a conversation with a desired group or contact and then go to the group or contact info.

  • Select  Custom Notifications .
  • On the next screen, tick  Use Custom Notifications .

Go to Custom Notifications and then enable it by tapping on Use Custom Notifications.

  • Now tap on  Notification tone  under  Message Notifications  and select the desired tone.
  • For contacts, you can also set a different call ringtone for each contact. You can do so from the Call notifications section on the same screen.

Change the notification tone and ringtone for the specific contact.

  • Open WhatsApp and tap on the conversation of the group/chat for which you want to change the ringtone.
  • On the conversation screen, tap on the Group/Contact Name  on top of the screen. This will open up Group/Contact Information.
  • Under Contact Info, tap on Wallpaper & Sound .

Tap on the Contact or Group Name and then select Wallpaper & Sound.

  • Next, you will find  Alert Tone under Custome Tone. Tap on it.
  • Select a  new message alert  sound for that group/contact.
  • Tap on  Save  at the top right corner after selecting the desired message tone.

Select a new Alert Tone for the Group or Contact.

Again, you won’t find any option to change the WhatsApp call ringtone on the iPhone WhatsApp app.

But you can change the WhatsApp ringtone on a per-contact basis by setting a different ringtone for each contact on iPhone for normal phone calls from the Phone app.

This will change the ringtones for WhatsApp calls as well for those contacts. This way you can have WhatsApp custom notifications for WhatsApp calls on your iPhone.

1 thought on “How To Change WhatsApp Rington On Android And iPhone: Customize The Sound Of Calls Or Messages”

Hello, setting customized notification is different from setting customized ringtones. This article is about setting customized notifications only. With customized ringtones, I want to assign MY OWN sound files, eg .ogg or .mp3, as the ringtone for an application event. For WhatsApp I am able to do this on an Asus phone by copying my own sound files to the /Ringtones folder. However, on an Alcatel Pixi 3, I could not, my sound files in /Ringtones and /Notifications are not visible when I went to choose ringtones for message notifications.

WhatsApp’s latest update streamlines navigation and adds a ‘darker dark mode’

how to change whatsapp call ringtone on android

WhatsApp is updating its mobile apps for a fresh and more streamlined look, while also introducing a new “darker dark mode,” the company announced on Thursday. The messaging app says that over the years, it has primarily focused on adding utility to the app and that while the product continues to grow, its design needs to evolve as well.

The messaging app is introducing a new color palette after considering over 35 different colors. WhatsApp focused on deeper tones to reduce eye strain in low-light situations. The app’s dark mode, a popular option for many people, is now one shade darker to make it easier to read messages.

WhatsApp is adding a native bottom navigation bar on Android to make it easier for users to find what they’re looking for quickly. The new navigation bar, which has been available on iOS for quite some time now, lets you quickly look at your chats, updates, communities, and calls.

As for iOS users, WhatsApp is making it easier to send photos and videos thanks to a new attachment layout. Instead of a full-screen menu, users will now see an expandable tray that allows them to see the options more clearly when sending media, polls, documents, and more.

WhatsApp is also updating its icons to a rounded, outlined style. Plus, the app is refreshing the default background in chats.
